After reading some of the threads in the forum, I feel like some of you young cats need to be hip to a motto that I learned at 21 that has taken me a long way.

Know Your Personnel.(KYP)

This is applicable equally gender wise, and it just highlights the need to understand the importance of what people you introduce into your life are capable of. If you KYP you save yourself the need of cell phone checking, or sweating what a significant other is capable of, or wondering if a chick/dude is worth your concern. You read a person when you meet them, tweak that initial read after spending time with them, and build a portfolio of their interactions, ideas, routines, etc. moving forward off of that.

I can say for my peoples and the folks I know, this philosophy has worked wonders, and so as a suggestion to some of you upcoming cats, embrace this motto. It makes life so much easier. Consider this my Bornday gift to y'all....

Agreed. I'll add, in evaluating people, you have to accept them for who they are and not what you hope they will or become. Character and values need to be determined because they're the engine for what a person is capable of and what decisions they make. Take note of how they treat other people..their momma, the person ringing up their groceries, etc. Doesn't matter whether the relationships is platonic/friendship or romantic.

I miss the nicca that educated me about this (R.I.P Los) but it's made life so much easier. It's so wide-ranging, so when I read threads about checking cell phones, or should I date this chick, me not sharing this motto, would seem self-sighted. KYP.
