Graphics look slight better than 14, but still not anything that blows me away.

I know it will happen because of cost, but I miss the 2D sprite era of previous games.

Well they are in a weird position.

A lot of casual fans skipped KOF12 and 13 because it wasn't 3D and people considered the game to be niche. The games were extremely expensive and nearly bankrupted the company. The appreciation for it's 2D artstyle came WELL after the lifecycle of the game had basically ended. In comparison to the competition, they flopped.

KOF14 flopped obviously because the graphics weren't that great, but they had to put it out because they needed something in their pockets. That lead to the new Samurai Shodown which had success with this artstyle.

So not only is this artstyle more cost effective, but it removes the "niche" tag off of the KoF series that it had previously. There's people out there that flat out refuse to play 2D games, and this eliminates that group.

Which is crazy to me, because I grew up playing the 2D fighters of Capcom and SNK.

I know SNK wouldn't have money like Capcom to make something that looks as visually impressive as say SFV, but I am surprised that Arc Systems Works seems to have more money. In terms of popularity, I would think KOF/Fatal Fury were ahead of Guilty Gear/Blaz Blue, but Arc Systems games look incredible. Granted they are doing a different style than most.

Well with Arcsys it isn't that they have more money, they just built the graphic engine so they can port it across franchises easily. It probably cost them $0 to make DBFZ and Granblue's graphical engine look the way it does because they already spent the money to develop it in Xrd so they can reuse it.

At this point they are just creating new models, changing the battle system and making story modes with reused assets and code. It's a good comeup.

KOF15 seems to be using Samurai Shodown's graphics engine but without the extra shaders. I'd say it looks as good as SF5, in my opinion.
