Kevin Dunn blamed for focusing on "Fat Owens Fat" sign during WWE Monday Night Raw
Last week, I argued that although Kevin Dunn wasn't responsible for scripting Randy Orton to make fun of Kevin Owens' weight that didn't mean he should be completely let off the hook. That was because it had been reported three weeks earlier that there was an anti-Owens school of thought within WWE who wanted to see him fail as a top star to prove themselves right and no-one had denied that Dunn was a vocal member of that camp. Had Dunn helped cultivate a toxic environment that led to such on-air fat shaming taking place?
This week arguably saw Kevin Dunn reveal his true colours as he decided to focus upon a "Fat Owens Fat" sign for a long time during Owens' appearance on Monday Night Raw this week. Dave Meltzer confirmed on his Wrestling Observer Radio show earlier today (free for once, so I'd highly recommend checking it out, Cagesiders) that Dunn is indeed responsible for deciding what camera shots are shown on the show, so he would be the one to blame for the decision to make sure the viewers at home saw that unflattering sign. Meltzer went on to joke about getting Dunn trending on Twitter again (#FireDunnFire perhaps?) for something he was actually to blame for this time:
One thing I agree with Alvarez and Meltzer on is that such Twitter trends are futile. Even though I'm confident that WWE gets upset over such negative trends about their Executive Vice President of Television Production, they are also an extremely stubborn company. Tell Vince McMahon something he doesn't want to hear, and his reputation suggests he'll just dig his heels in further. For as long as Vince rules over WWE, his confidante Kevin Dunn will remain by his side. What we think about it is immaterial.
