Cunningham: No Floyd Would Be Major Disappointment
Posted by: Edward Chaykovsky on 11/5/2014

By Edward Chaykovsky

Kevin Cunningham, trainer and manager of Devon Alexander, would be very disappointed if they beat Amir Khan - and then fail to secure a fight in May with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alexander and Khan will clash on December 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Both Khan and Alexander are gunning to face Mayweather (47-0, 26KOs) on Cinco De Mayo weekend, May 2nd of next year.

“Right now, this is the biggest fight of Devon’s career. If he gets past [Amir] Khan, he puts himself right back in the mix with Mayweather. Anything else than a Mayweather fight for us after beating Amir Khan would be a major disappointment.”

Cunningham says a win over Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) will push Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) back in the position that he occupied prior to the loss several years ago to Timothy Bradley.

“Devon has had opportunities to prove to people that he was everything they thought he was, but he has come up short in the past. We accept that, but this opportunity here will propel him right back into that situation and the scenario he was once in going into the Tim Bradley fight," Cunningham said.

If Devon Alexander goes out and destroys Khan, or like I said in the official thread, if Alexander "Urango"s Khan....then yes, he should be considered for the Floyd fight. Even though I dont believe he would be more deserving than even Kell Brook (who beat Shawn Porter), I understand Cunningham's logic of if Khan's supposedly "next" and we beat him, we take his spot:ehh:

Realistic options (including if Alexander wins over Khan) for the next Floyd fight should be in this order (no Kell Brook since he's still recovering from being stabbed):

Danny Garcia
Keith Thurman
Devon Alexander

Floyd Mayweather vs Devon Alexander would not sell well on PPV though to the casuals.

If Floyd fights that funny looking niqqa Devon, I promise you I won't watch that nonsense. Manny and One Time needs to pull a Shannon Briggs on Floyd.

"I eat what you eat champ!"
"I make love to Ellerbe too champ!"
"I'm a let washed up rappers take my chick too champ!"
"I can't r-r-r-ead either ch-a-a-amp!"

Just a heads up because If Floyd can fight Khan and Devon's leftover twice in one year, there's no reason he should avoid Devon if he beats Khan..

Even if Devon Alexander beats Khan, it depends on HOW he beats him because a struggle victory is a no-go. He has to look impressive and destroy Khan.

If he destroys Khan, then yeah, he could fight Floyd. If it's a struggle victory, Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman are still ahead of him in the rankings of "Floyd's next opponents"
