ROH Cuts Ties w/Kenny King; Refuses To Do Business w/Him | WrestleZone

ROH-Kenny King Update

The appearance of ROH wrestler Kenny King on another television wrestling program tonight has raised speculation on his future as well as how this appearance could occur.

The contract Kenny King signed in June 2011 expired 11 days ago. Before that expiration, an agreement was reached between Kenny and ROH management for an extension of that contract, with a provision to allow him to negotiate with any other promotions so that he could evaluate his options and any potential interest in him elsewhere. When that short extension concluded he would then be free to accept an offer elsewhere, or sign another long term contract with ROH. Under this agreement, Kenny was free to negotiate but not to wrestle for another organization without ROH's permission.

When Kenny was presented with the written extension reflecting this verbal and handshake agreement, he informed ROH he was unsure if other promotions would accept the negotiation clause. He was told he could take the document to be examined by his attorney or other interested parties before executing it to be reassured any other offers would not be viewed as contract tampering. He also informed ROH that he would keep us apprised of any developments.

He contacted ROH on Tuesday July 3 to inform us that he had a meeting in Orlando on Thursday, July 5, which was within the scope of the agreement he had made. Then, early morning on July 5, he contacted an ROH official to say he would be wrestling on the Orlando event that night. He was told he did not have permission to appear live on television as it violated the agreement that had been made. His response was that the deal he had shaken hands on and agreed to in principle "seemed fair at the time", but "others" had told him it was not, so he did not intend to honor it.

Ring of Honor is disappointed that Kenny has chosen to make this decision, after the company had agreed to and followed through on everything he had asked for at the time of our negotiation. However, we consider this breach of his verbal agreement unacceptable, and regardless of his future employment status with any other wrestling company, ROH will not be doing business with Kenny King going forward.

A statement from ROH will be forthcoming regarding the future of the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Co-holder Rhett Titus remains on the active ROH roster.

I was watching impact on DVR too and after that Dakota Darsow/Flex whatever match I just stopped it and went to go lay down.

What happened?

Funny Kenny just got his first title there and he tryna jump ship, must be bad over there. Seems like his contract been up, maybe they tried to put the strap on em to stay, dumb move. Kenny's a hustler

Wasn't Christopher Daniels doing TNA TV while he was ROH TV Champion?

I don't have the contract in front of me, so I can't say too much of anything on that, but what I will say is that ROH needs to get their shyt together. They're basically back to the same old shyt in the tag division now after they took so damn long to put the belts on the ANX. This isn't going to help them in the "new stars" department.

This all just seems needlessly complicated. For all of the dodginess of old-school ECW, ROH seems to be trying to get to get to that level of shadiness in their dealings at times.

What did ROH really expect him to do if he was offered a chance to wrestle somewhere else while under a verbal agreement? :comeon: now.

It took them YEARS to give the man a title run. Adam Cole won one a week later. What do you really expect the man to do? They better bring the bucks back and start using another indy for help. They need Chikara more than ever.

There are two sides to a story, but if ROH's version is accurate, then Kenny is in the wrong.

It was a poor judgement call to put a title on him without having him signed, but I doubt anyone expected him to go against his word. Right now, it just seems what he did was unprofessional, but of course there could be more to the story.

This really sucks for Rhett though. He's worked hard over the last couple years to finally get people to take him seriously, and now he might be fukked.

Wolf you will dikksuck ROH until the end.

You do realize that exactly what you said, Kenny and Rhett worked hard over the years and never sniffed tag belts or even tag title shots. For YEARS.

Haas and Benjamin come in tag belts thrown on them. No shine on the singles avenue for either of them either. They just toil away, doing whatever is asked of them. Then when they finally see they might lose him, they give them the tag belts to appease them.

What the fukk is a handshake agreement? If it's not on paper everyone could be lying. All we know is, his contract expired, they panicked and gave them the tag belts.

So ROH 100% in the wrong. They fukked up royally.

Man, shut the fukk up.

In no way were ANX ready for the titles up until last year, but Titus ended up getting injured which set them back a bit. 2012 was the right time for them.

The bottom line here though, is that ROH and Kenny King apparently had an agreement, which King decided not to honor. That's unprofessional, and shows a lack of ethics.

:trash:

So what happened to Kenny in singles when Rhett was hurt? Nothing? Yup.

How do you know they had anything? Nothing written, nothing existed. You gotta turn your blinders off.

Chill pill, guys.

I don't blame ROH for at least wanting to lock him up for dates before he might leave, but what they (read: Sinclair) needed to realize was that there are next to ZERO signings that come without tryout matches. If the only tryout they have is a TV one, what the fukk is Kenny supposed to do? Say no, and possibly never get another opportunity? Not when he has a kid back home. Kenny may have breached the agreement, but I don't really blame him for doing it when that might be his only opportunity to get into the company. Also: What ISN'T said here was that Kenny was willing to go back and do additional dates, but ROH shut him out needlessly. They could have brought him back for one date to drop the belts, then do a Titus push (:scusthov:).

It's just a bit of a mess, really.

Two more things:

1. That whole "'others' had told him it was not, so he did not intend to honor it" REEKS of Austin Aries and his beef with ROH.

2. It wasn't like Kenny really wanted to be there to begin with. And it seems like Rhett agreed with his views (Those views being "fukk the Sinclair era."):
