“We haven’t seen this type of Unity on the West since we lost our brother Nipsey Hussle,” owner of Free Lunch, Tim Hinshaw, tells Billboard. “As Dot said on stage, this moment was bigger than a back and forth; it was about supporting each other and showing the world that we could come together for a greater cause. All of these organizations play a pivotal role in the development of our community and the hope is that we all continue to support them moving forward.”

Amongst the 20 charities and community initiatives is the Compton G.irls Club. “We would like to thank pgLang and Free Lunch for recognizing their roots and supporting g.irls from the hood. It’s refreshing to know that Kendrick always comes back to the community to support the next generation,” says Chrystani Heinrich, founder & executive director of Compton G.irls Club.

Lamar’s Pop Out concert brought some of L.A.’s biggest names, including Dr. Dre, Tyler, the Creator, Ty Dolla $ign, Steve Lacy, Mustard and more. Mustard, who shared a performance slot that night with Lamar and DJ Hed, expressed his pride in Lamar and the city to Billboard.

“The Pop Out concert had a significant impact on the city, unifying West Coast hip-hop, providing a platform for emerging talent, celebrating Black culture, and revitalizing the local music scene,” says Mustard. “It garnered global attention but also allowed us artists to give back to different programs based around South L.A. and put L.A. back in the driver’s seat for music, something that’s been long overdue.”

Below is a list of all the respective charities, along with the complete lineup of guests who appeared at The Pop Out on Juneteenth.

Kdot had done a lot for Compton, A LOT.

not sure what you're talking about, clown.

Kendrick got Drake to finally be relevant.
tbh I don't think anyone in hip hop has ever helped their neighborhood as much as Kendrick did. Donating huge amounts of money, paying bills, offering houses, cars, financially helping schools,...
And crazy part is he always tries to do it in the shadow, he hates it when journalists notice it.

Drake got him to finally plant some money trees

Now just visit the kids Kenny
In 2023, Kendrick attended the annual Christmas in Compton toy giveaway, with donations for his hometown. The event featured fellow music industry personalities like Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine and rapper Jay Worthy, per VIBE. The toy drive is a significant event for the city, providing gifts and joy to many children and families.

In 2014, the rapper went on a five-stop tour and donated the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and various Compton-based organizations. These performances not only raise funds but also bring attention to critical social issues.

Kendrick previously made a big gesture that left a local basketball team inspired. An X user revealed one of Kendrick’s random acts of kindness, which was not previously known to the public. While filming footage for his tour at Campanella Park, Kendrick noticed a group of young athletes practicing. Impressed by their dedication, he took an impromptu break from his shoot to engage with the team.
After a brief chat and finding out their shoe sizes, Lamar made a quick trip to Foot Locker and returned with new sneakers for every member of the team.

“If you visit Compton ... Mr. Lamar is a familiar face in the neighborhood," Senator Hall said. The rapper has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Compton Unified School District’s music, sports, and after-school programs “to help keep Compton students off the streets and in the classroom.”

Lamar also gave $50,000 to his high school’s music program where the students see him as a role model, and he takes that role seriously.

“I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community off of what I do in music … [to] have these young kids look at me as some type of inspiration is an honor,” he said at the Generational Icon award ceremony.

"Tell your story to these black and brown kids … Let them know you was just like them, but you still rose from that dark place of violence, becoming a positive person,” Lamar’s mother advises him in a voicemail he featured on his album.

Like Joe Budden said, Drake should thank Kendrick for helping him get on the charts.

Drake has been unable to chart songs on his own for almost a decade.
