Kendrick Lamar Discusses Comparisons Between "good kid, m.A.A.d. city" & Nas' "Illmatic" | Get The Latest Hip Hop News, Rap News & Hip Hop Album Sales | HipHop DX

K. Dot addresses some critical comparisons of the album to Nas' own debut Illmatic.

Kendrick explained that having good kid, m.A.A.d city likened to the QB legend's classic record is both exhilarating and terrifying. While he feels proud that many listeners believe he's encapsulated the sound of his generation with the project, he says that he's not ready to accept the idea that he's the second coming of God's Son.

“Illmatic? For people to even put my album in the light of that, is an accomplishment. It’s crazy to even be mentioned with it but it’s scary at the same time," he said. "That era - I wanna say the age range now would be 30, 30 to 40 - they can recognize this was the album. Illmatic's the album for the '90s era when I was growing up. The stories he was telling was something I can relate to. From the response, just from the leak...these kids out here, they're all saying the same thing: this is the feel for this era...it's just a weird feeling to be in that same type of light, 'cus it takes a whole lot of responsibility to keep that up in the long run and longevity, and that's something I don't have yet...so Illmatic will always be #1."

If an artist doesnt mention your personal fav album in their top 25list it dont
mean its not a classic or u should take it as a diss.
Some of ya'll nikkaz scan the list looking for Jay/Nas's albums as if their
presence gives weight or credibility to the artist.
i remember nikkaz catching feelings when Lupe Fiasco didnt know bout
Midnight Marauders earlier tribe called Quest classic...on that Lupe said ...

Have I listened to Midnight Marauders in its entirety? ... no!!! ... (sorry ?uest). Get off your high horses and your sacred cows. Some of ya'll make me sick. ...

"And fyi when [the Tribe tribute] was initially offered to me, I turned it down because I felt it was out of place for me to be honoring them, because while I was fully aware of their impact in hip-hop I wasn't really aware of their music like that

Kendrick recognises Illmatic as a classic that defined an era just as he seeks
to do with his debut even though its not a personal fav.....deal with it.

10/15 years from now fans/rap artist are gonna to be listing more Drake/Wayne/Cole/Kanye/Ross albums than Wutang/Jay/Outcast/Nas/Cube because of what influenced them not the generic top 10/25list you keep
expecting and ya'll be like ...
