using his talent to spread a positive social message

but Pac got caught up in tha era and politics of tha rap game at tha time, he caught tha tail end of that gangsta era

his insecurities wouldn't let him become who he wanted to be, thats how it wuz then, rappers all pretended to be thugs in order to be accepted

Kendrick is lucky to come up in an era where you can be yourself without it considered "selling out"

I don't ever see Kendrick speaking out on black social issues and sonning the police and government like a young Pac did. I don't mean in his rhymes. I mean on a public platform with speeches and tweets. Come to think of it, I've never read a non safe tweet from him.
thats not tha era Kendrick is from

you don't hear ice cube doing that any more either, not saying that racism duzn't exist any more, but that black revolutionary era in rap has passed

Kendrick is speaking on social issues that apply today to tha masses, he is in tune with this generations issues: vanity, insecurity, drug abuse etc....

by tha way this is NOT a 2pac bash thread, he wuz a great illustrator of his era, i think people are in luv with that era they grew up in more than pac, it wuz a very significant time in history...2pac embodied that time in history

"Positive" rap is not the same as political rap. Kendrick does some of the former but from what I can tell, little of the latter, and certainly nothing that approaches the political content that 2Pac had. I mean, shyt, Isaiah Rashad might have more political content in his work than Kendrick :yeshrug:

“I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world.” PAC

a spark can easily be fanned into a flame
now I'd say kendrick is definitely inspired by PAC(see hiiipower and the vision described)but they are SEPARATE and DIFFERENT individuals
most people who listened to PAC can say the passion and energy he brought inspired them
now what you apply that inspiration to and the direction you take that inspiration is up to you

//////Illuminated by the hand of God, boy ain't that high
Illuminated by the hand of God, boy don't be shy//////

I've been lookin' for you my whole life, appetite
For the feeling I can barely describe, where you reside?
In a woman, is it in money, or mankind?
Something got me losing my mind

Where you at? From the front to the back
I'm lookin' for you, I react only when you react, ha

Thought I found you, back in the ghetto
When I was seventeen with the thirty-eight special

Maybe you're in a dollar bill, maybe you're not real
Maybe only the wealthy get to know how you feel
Maybe I'm paranoid, ha, maybe I, don't need you anyway
Don't lie to me, I'm, suicidal anyday

I could be your advocate
I could speak for you if you tell me what the matter is
I could preach for you with the mighty tongue

I'm the one, how can I, overcome
Negative energy when I feel infinitely and some?//////

those couple lines added to the hook
and the fifth final verse are striking to me
if this is the direction he's taking
I'm cool with it
:salute:to the energy and passion he's putting into his work*
