Keith Thurman questions Danny Garcia's title opportunity
By Wil Esco@wil_esco on Jan 25, 2016, 10:01a +

Keith Thurman takes a moment to put Danny Garcia's new championship title into perspective.

Following Danny Garcia's unanimous decision victory over Robert Guerrero this weekend, Keith Thurman spoke to reporters after the fight in an attempt to keep things in their proper context. In this video interview caught by FightHype, Thurman gives his thoughts on the new WBC welterweight champion, and possible future opponent, Danny Garcia.

"Let me hit the real button, okay. The 'real button' is: how come is wasn't versus Amir Khan? Amir Khan has been set up at the top of the WBC and now Danny Garcia just gets to hop [to] 147, 'here's a vacancy and I'm gonna take it,' against NOT the number one contender in the WBC which is Amir Khan. Look man, that's just touching on the real button a little bit." said Thurman.

"But outside of that, it's not Danny's fault that this is how he got his opportunity. He came, he performed, and he won. He IS now the WBC welterweight champion of the world - he does deserve it regardless of exactly the matchmaking, how he acquired it. Robert Guerrero still put a tremendous fight forward. tested Danny, made Danny fight a little different."

Answering a question on whether or not he thought Garcia got exposed at all in this fight, Thurman responded:

"Did he get exposed tonight?! Did he get exposed in Puerto Rico?! Did he get exposed versus Lamont Peterson?! Exposed, exposed, exposed. Let me hit the real button. Did he get beat tonight?! He didn't get beat tonight. He's never been beat. You can hate on somebody who looks like they should lose, but don't lose, I can understand the hate...But what you really gotta understand is that Danny Garcia sticks to some of the fundamentals, he sticks to what he's good at - right hand, left hook."

Thurman ends by saying that he plans on taking care of business with Shawn Porter first, a fight that has now been officially confirmed, and after that he'll start looking towards Danny Garcia.

Thurman Eyes Danny Garcia: I'm Taking Over, Cleaning Out 147!

by Carlos Boogs

WBA welterweight champion Keith "One Time" Thurman (26-0, 22KOs) is looking to clean out the welterweight division in style.

On March 12th, he faces former IBF champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16KOs) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Should he win, he wants to face newly crowned WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs) in the fall.

Thurman was ringside on Saturday night as part of the FOX broadcast team, as called the action for Garcia's title winning twelve round decision over Robert Guerrero.

Garcia, in only his second fight at 147, made adjustments to get the victory but had some tough moments with Guerrero. Thurman dropped and dominated Guerrero for most of their twelve round fight last March.

Garcia may have another fight to deal with of his own. The World Boxing Council has ordered him to face mandatory challenger Amir Khan by June. Garcia is not very interested in the fight, but Khan is going to press the issue with the

sanctioning body.

"Of course I want that fight [with Danny Garcia] next," Thurman told BoxingScene.com. "First, I have Shawn Porter on March 12th. Once we get through this fight with Shawn Porter, then we can do it.... two young, undefeated champions

with power."

"I'm planning on taking over. This fight right here [with Porter] is going to solidify, one step at a time - clean out the welterweight division and prove that I'm the best welterweight in boxing today."

"The road begins on March 12th. Put me at the top if you want to - thank you for all your love and respect. Put me in the middle, put me at the bottom - it doesn't matter. We are just getting started. There are still other welterweights to

take care of. Some believe that you're not the best until you fight everybody. Well, Keith 'One Time' Thurman wants to fight everybody."

Thurman taking potshots at Swift:mjlol:

Im more intrigued by Thurman vs Swift now than I am Thurman vs Porter:whew:

I see glaring flaws in both of them and there's only 1 way to settle it.....in the ring:demonic:

No wonder I am #Thurminators, Keith said exactly how I feel about Danny. Danny hasn't loss and I can't hate on him like other fighters are beating him left and right. But his flaws are obvious, you can see where other fighters could beat him and he has a few recent fights that didn't make him look too favorably.
Keith is right though, the flaws are obvious, but he isn't truly exposed until somebody takes his L.

I'm a Garcia fan but Keith is right, Garcia supposed to be levels above opponents & bltiz boxers like Peterson, Herrera & Zab Judy but those fights ended up being pretty competitive & some say controversial.

Garcia just seems like a boxer that will get the job done on the night though, despite how he performs :obama:

Him & Thurman is a 50-50 fight though, not sure who I'd pick in that 1:lupe:

Sounds like some competitive shade from #Thurminators. :manny:

Can't really hate on Swift's resume though. He's had some tough close fights, but at the end of the day he made the fight. Same thing with Oscar. nikkas stay shytting on his losses, but ain't too many people capable of fighting that same competition while staying undefeated.

Thurman need to be focusing on Porter though.

:mjlol:at let me hit the real button. nikka act like he finna drop some God like gems.
