WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — A former Michigan State University basketball star is back in trouble with the law, after a drug related arrest by Warren police.

Keith Appling is a Detroit native, and current professional player.

At 28-years-old, he was once in the spotlight but has recently struggled with brushes with the law and even served time for gun possession.

“Warren Police were driving down the street and saw a vehicle weaving in and out of his lane. They pulled over the vehicle and it turned out to be Keith Appling,” says Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith.

He adds back on February 8th, “It turns out he had a significant amount of heroin in the car. So, we’ve charged him with distribution or selling.”

The alleged crime carries a 20 year penalty.

Prosecutors say at the time of the traffic stop along Dequindre, Appling also behaved very suspiciously and refused to answer some of their questions.

“Mr. Appling was sweating. Shaking. Very nervous. Appeared unsure and unsteady,” says Smith.

We reached out to an attorney for Appling, but so far have not heard back.

He’s currently free on bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 25th.

Damn. I remember the gun charges and I was shocked about that. Sad that it's devolved to this. Especially heroin.

Riding dirty AND recklessly?

Who does that?

If I'm pushing weight, best believe I'm driving sober and obeying all traffic laws.

cops always say this to “justify” the stop but they usually either profiled and got lucky you dirty after they force a search Or someone snitched on your operation and they knew what you had in the car just needed a bullshyt reason to pull you. I doubt breh was driving reckless

I thought about that instantly after I posted it.

Sad. I liked him a lot in college thought he could at least be a back up if not a very good player overseas.

Just seen he had been balling in the G-League (G-League All-Star, All-Defensive Team) and was playing overseas in Mexico and Italy. He also completed his sociology degree.

Why do this shyt? Look at bro's face he looks smoked out sad shyt.

Breh just can’t get right...injures his wrist/hand his senior year at MSU and was never the same.

his senior year at Pershing dropped 49 points for the state title...still the record I think.
