I’ve been binging a lot of black films the last two weeks and to keep it a buck a lot of our films are trash. It’s like we crave content so we let a lot of shyt slide. Feel free to share your unpopular opinions about Black films here and maybe somethings you’d like to see from Black film in the future.

Spike Lee has as many wack films as he does classics. Which is cool cause his best is top tier.

love& basketball, Poetic Justice, and Friday are not that good.

Fresh is criminally underrated

the whole racial horror genre needs to die out quick

Chameleon Street is interesting and should be seen by more people.

The Spook who Sat by the Door is great and I’m pretty sure the remake is going to suck.

I had never heard of chameleon street but it sounds like a good flick. I’ll definitely check it out

Out of Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, Ava DuVernay's Selma and Lee Daniels' The Butler I liked The Butler the best. The theme resonated with me the most.

Harvey World to Dallas, TX
Clockers & Crookylyn > Do The Right Thing

A lot of people underestimate the influence in heavy-handiness that A Different World has on contemporary black media, and this isn't inherently a bad thing

I think the hate Lena Waithe gets is a bit overboard, and she's better off being a producer

Queen & Slim is gonna be looked back at the same way Paid in Full is

Black Trauma/Black Struggle is a term people are gonna throw on any black related film/content if it isn't up to par with that they personally what reflected onto the world, in the same way cacs throw the word pretentious at everything

Juice does not get the credit it deserves

Life is arguable the GOAT Comedy-Drama in cinema history period

Chris Rock has maybe two ok movies in his filmography

Katt Williams needs to act more

More black animators who aren't influenced soley by anime, cause goddamn.

Insecure & Atlanta are the only two standouts for black TV in this generation, and that's ok. Southside got next :jawalrus:

Too many black films still about the stagnant behavior of the hood. Not enough about the 9 to 5 people, only the drug dealers, up and coming rappers, and thots.

We need more Black sci-fi and even fantasy themed era films without the gimmick of "it's black". What I mean is, write something on the quality of the early Star Wars films and so on.

Number one reason I dont even bother with most black movies.
Writers need to grow out of that.
Hood shyt doesn't get an automatic pass but it has a short leash.
The stories in black cinema tv and movies are straight small minded trash.

You're right, but I hope you and everybody that dapped this watched Altered Carbon season 2 because that was exactly the black sci-fi show nikkas claim to have wanted.
