in a good way.

In my day to day life I don't meet any people into music as much as the people on here. This goes for the booth to but I'm not trynna to go on the second page :russ: You guys realize it's not normal right? To know so much about a subject past and present and be able to talk about one thing for weeks on end.

How'd you guys do it? The amount of music I've been put on to just for being on here is insane. Some stuff I don't even know exist and other shyt I listened to just cause it got co-signed by someone on the coli.

Only way I listen to new music is reading about it on the net from sites I check for, or me being curious cause I liked a song of theirs on the radio. Or I like the album cover :snoop:

Where does your knowledge in music come from? Any advice on someone trying to get their knowledge up?

Hanging with like minded people who love music, being a kid of the 90's (back when MTV and the box played everything so you were exposed to all genres, vh1 put me on old school white jams), OG parents from the 50's-70's soul era, an older brother who loves music and is a DJ dude knows so much shyt from hella eras across multiple genres, I played jazz growing up so that put me on jazz and blues, lastly, Internet and satellite radio stations introduced me to more artists....and of course SOHH/the coli

Amen. Pretty much none of my friends listen to the same music as I do, nor are they as interested in music as I am. I try to put them onto different artists, but usually they just give me the :yeshrug:
It's nice to have this forum where I can actually have discussions about artists/songs/albums that I like.

Movie soundtracks are def. a top 3 source of random music you'd prolly never be exposed to otherwise :banderas:

use youtube's recommendations for 10-15 minutes and you'll start finding all kinds of piff, im talkin rare shyt with only like 100 views and whatnot :noah:

definitely watch artists interviews as well, 9 times outta 10 their gonna name people who inspired them that you've never heard of and you're gonna start finding older artists with 10+ albums of pure piff who are still making shyt:whew::whew::whew:

i stopped following most rappers on twitter cuz they usual dont put fans onto other artist, tylers like the only rapper who links all types of jazz/soul piff for nikkas :whew: it's weird cuz almost every non-rapper i follow is always putting me onto shyt i never heard of that slaps

or just google whatever genre you're interested in and dig :yeshrug:

randomly surfing the (international) radio station at night(when dumbass talk shows aren't on) doesn't hurt either :smugdraper:

A good resource for discovering new music is last.fm. You can pull up pretty much any artist and it will list a ton of similar artists, including a bunch of obscure artists that you'may have never heard of.

For me, it's mostly a mix of browsing Amazon.com, browsing FYE, hearsay from artists I admire and Coli recommendations. Amazon really is what started the whole thing. I would hear about an album through a friend and would preview it on Amazon. I also have used 8tracks to find downtempo music I haven't heard. Coli recommendations are usually for hip hop.

I don't really know, dude. It's a mixture of a lot of things over the years that's molded my musical taste. I'm never satisfied, either: I'll keep looking up albums, even after I've ordered a bunch of music. It's like I'm a fiend.

Music is like food and air to me. I have to have it in my life, every day, all day.

Every where I go I talk about music with someone it seems like. I got put onto a lot of music just by talking to people either in person or on the Internet.

Also, I like to follow a lot of DJs and subscribe to their podcasts and/or their soundcloud. They always find newness or something rare and awesome.

I always had music on everywhere. When I was a li'l nicca:

- my pop had vinyl. GOBS of it, cuzz. He had a li'l joint that had a jukebox. So he had hella 45s an' chit.
- my mom usedto listen to the radio in the car all the time. Mostly the oldies station.
- my big sisters had ALL the new stuff.

It's amazing how music stays in your mind after you hear it.

I started making beats just as a hobby when I was a teen...when I did that, I just used to buy used
music at the Wrecka Stow that was cheap, and listen 'til I found something I wanted to chop up.
And that exposed me to a whole lot of chit I never would've listened to. And, just being in the 'hood
you would find some chit layin' around! Case in point - we were playin' at the park up the street one day,
and my sister finds this CD in the gutter. It still looked decent, so we took it home and played it. That
was the first time I ever heard this:
