Dope film:leon:

Not the scariest shyt ever in terms of quantity of jumps but when there happened they were all well done.

FX and cinematography were on point, so was the acting and character development. Just an all round good classy film, probably horror of the year so far IMO :yeshrug:

I want a copy of that pop up book too

Anyone else seen this?

My friend writes for an online film review website, it's unpaid but he get's to see a bunch of preview screenings and he had +1 spare.

The monster is dope breh :obama: They were subtle with it. I don't know if you know the stop motion films of Jan Svankmeyer but it had that kind of feel from the way it moved. One of the best things with the scares was that they'd spread them out unevenly over the film, it wasn't as predictable as a Paranormal Activity-type movie where they just ramp up the volume on the shocks as the run time goes on.

I didn't catch most of that hype. It wasn't crazy scary but it was a fresh take on the haunted house film which isn't easy these days. The mother and her kid killed it too

I had been wanting to see it since I heard about it in February. I was pretty much scouring the internet trying to find a copy but finally gave up. I finally got to see it on a flight to Sydney, which was funny because the night before I was trying find it on the internet again so I could watch on the plane. The movie was good though but the hype made it seem like this movie was the horror movie of the generation.

You waited till you were on a plane to watch a horror film you've been anticipating for months? :dahell:

I'm starting to see why that may have been disappointing for you breh :patrice:

Lol it was an in flight movie breh. It was a movie I was anticipating that had no release date and was being shown to me free of charge with plenty of free booze. Of course I watched it. It was just me and my wife in our row so we had plenty of leg room and space so I wasn't cramped. I mean I like the movie and the acting was good, the only real problem I had was the ending felt :patrice:Other than that it was good move....... I just think it was over hyped. :manny:

I guess breh, them long haul flights have me crawling up the walls with boredom (the free booze is :blessed: too), I still think  tho, watching a horror film on an 8 inch headrest screen is gonna murk all of the atmosphere.

The ending had me kind of :dwillhuh: at first too, but
A) I think it dodged the corny options of having a straight up happy ever after ending or one of those one's where that last shot is the monster coming back on the lead character for no reason. Whatever, I def didn't see it coming

B) I think she had to live with the Babadook because he represented the grief/guilt she'll have to keep carrying with her son as he'll always remind her of her life getting ruined with the dad's death, or maybe that's just pretentious lol

I supposed you have point about that but I when saw it in the menu I was like :blessed:. My focus was pretty much on the movie which was easy to do because of my anticipation, plot, and actors.
at face value I thought the ending was ok at first because I thought the babadook wasn't real and she was the monster. Then I started questioning that because they were making it seem like there was a real monster. I had no one to discuss the ending with since no one on this site has seen it

I was reading a review and someone said that a movie called "intruder" was basically the American version of this movie without the monster

Just watched this again and its easily one of the best horror movies of the last 25 years. Its masterfully shot, has intersecting themes, and really fukks with you...its just amazing.

Between this and It Follows, horror movies might be back on the rise creatively
