Just how great of an actor was or is Johhny Depp?

After watching Black Mass again for a 2nd time I was thinking bout this. He did ok in it but I still excepted more from him. But then it got me thinking, just how great of an ascot is he? His choice in roles and movies have been shytty but is it always the movies he picks?

Edward is Johnny at his core. Taking on a weird/quirky character. His defining moment

Donnie is his 2nd best and then comes Blow in in 3rd place

I'm trying to think what are his next 2 best?
