Just dawned on me that Phonte Has to be considered a top 10 MC of all time

Atleast according to my criteria.

1) Catalogue - One universally considered classic (The listening) and a bunch of personal classics that have stood the test of time. Albums like the Minstrel show, Getback, Connected, Seperate but equal, Chitlin Circuit have held up very well.

2) Extremely DOPE on the mic - Bars, emotion, concepts, flow, technical skill...I mean, dude can do every type of song and done it well. Very complete MC. Also, he hardly ever raps on a wack beat (Good beat selection is a skill, albeit subjective, but probably 50% in terms if importantance in terms of an MC's overall enjoyability on the mic for me)

3) Influence - His influence on a whole generation of MC's is quite known and apparent (Drake, Cole, Kendrick).

Don't hate this at all.

If you were being real strict you could argue his solo catalogue isn't deep enough, but at the same time there's a lot of rappers considered all time top tier that don't have extensive solo catalogues either.

One of the best and low key most influential to do it.

Unique voice and style. Charisma for days. Versatile and can do pretty much any type of song or just bar out.

Classic albums.

Lack of extensive/renowned solo catalogue is a good point, which is why he wouldnt get in my top 5, but damn, he really does check all the other important boxes to get into that top 10

Charisma is a good point aswell, definitely an interesting MC not just for his lyrical abilities but personality too
