One of my coworkers found an iPhone 5 and is willing to sell it to me for $30. If I buy it, is there any way this can be traced back to me and the cops come knocking at my door?

Edit: It's locked and I can't open it to do a factory reset or anything.

Well, I decided not to cop it. We were all sitting around, and one of my other coworkers said it wasn't a 5, but a 4. I still figured I coulda flipped it for even $100, but another coworker ended up paying $40 for it. :manny:

But TRUST me, even if it was a 5, this dude would've still sold it to me for $30.

you would be buying known stolen property, if the owner has a tracker on it.

That's the reason I made this thread...didn't want any interference from the law. Apparently from what I read though, if someone were to lose their iPhone, the most they could do is remotely track it to the general vicinity, wipe the phone clean, or cause the phone to make a loud noise if the phone is in close proximity. Basically, the cops wouldn't be tracked to my crib. I wasn't planning on keeping the phone anyway, I was gonna sell it. It's a moot point now because he ended up selling to another coworker for $40.

you could hook it up to a computer and do a factory restore. Then set it up as a new iphone and :eat:.

Even if they traced it using Find My iPhone before you restore it the cops cant legally search your place for it. But they will be knocking on your door with questions :shaq:
