We filed a lawsuit against him two months ago in a Nevada Federal court, asking that he be kept under contract until at least April 2016," Petrocelli said. "Chavez has his lawyer, obviously they do not agree with this, but that will be decided by a court."

First it was we NEED JCC Jr to sign an extension because we risk losing money N him leaving

Then it changed out the blue to Chavez is signed until Oct 2015 but we still need an extension

Now its Top Rank filed a Lawsuit 2 months ago asking for Chavez to remain under contract to April 2015

CHAVEZ JR. ANSWERS TOP RANK'S LAWSUIT

Earlier this year, Top Rank filed a lawsuit in Nevada claiming that Julio Cesar Chavez is still under an exclusive promotional contract. Today, Chavez answered the lawsuit and took the position that his promotional contract expired on September 28th, and "therefore, neither party has any obligation to each other after September 28, 2014." The answer also claimed that CHavez "is now free to test the market to find a promoter willing to offer him the best possible terms for his next fight. Top Rank should not be allowed to harm Chavez by preventing him from moving forward with his boxing career." Among the defenses listed in the answer, Chavez's attorneys claimed the Mexican Chavez "lacked the capacity to understand the terms of the [contract] extension," that the contract extension was induced by Top Rank's fraud and that it is void under United States law (the Muhammad Ali Act). No further details were provided about these defenses. Chavez also filed a counterclaim, asking the court to formally declare the Top Rank contract has expired. No claim for monetary damages was made by Chavez, only for attorney's fees. Chavez has not fought since defeating Brian Vera on March 1st.
