Josh Brolin says playing Cable in 'Deadpool 2' felt like a 'business transaction' compared to playing Thanos

  • Josh Brolin revealed that he enjoyed playing Thanos in "Avengers" a lot more than he enjoyed playing Cable in "Deadpool 2."
  • While chatting on the "Team Deakins" podcast, the actor said he got more out of the "Avengers" villain because he would ground him with comparisons to characters in movies like "Apocalypse Now" and "Scarface."
  • Brolin said playing Cable in "Deadpool 2" felt like a "business transaction."
  • "It was more, 'We need to make this like this,' whereas I didn't feel that way with 'Avengers,'" Brolin said.

He probably feels like that because there was no analog for him as an actor when it came to Cable.

What I mean is he said wearing all the mo cap stuff for Thanos and pretending he was some 8 foot tall alien took him back to the days when he was doing hole in the wall underground acting gigs. When they'd wear ridiculous outfits and it was basically still playing make believe.

Just because it wasn't a labour of love to film he embodied the nature of Cable well even though his dialogue was short and still came out with a classic.:wow:

He actually was a decent Cable, but his take or rather the way Cable was written didn't really work for this universe.

To Brolin's point, the character felt shoe-horned in. His interpretation could've worked in the X-Men movies, but not necessarily Deadpool if that makes sense. Personally, if he wasn't as old; not that stunt doubles and CGI weren't used; but Ron Perlman channeling HellBoy would've been perfect for the Deadpool universe.

The Fox X-Men Universe ruined their own chances of true success with the franchise. Instead of rebooting The X-Men 4 times in 20 years they could've easily planned ahead and worked the lesser known characters like X-Man and Cable into X-Men. Those two characters alone have an amazing backstory. Everything was about Wolverine lol. Cyclops is the driving factor in all X-Men stories in the comics even when he's playing the background he's still the star and he was never treated as such and for that the franchise never grew beyond retelling a variation of Weapon X. They did nothing about the Starjammers. Everything was botched until Deadpool and I actually thought they did Cable justice because in the comics he's both goofy and menacing. They captured the character well in my opinion. Regardless, it was a good film.
