Following the news of the ban on IV re-hydration methods, fighters were quick to ridicule the new policy. Enforced by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), all fighters on the UFC roster will no longer be able to use intravenous re-hydration methods to bounce back to full health after weight cutting; a common practice to restore hydration levels amongst many fighters.
UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo became the latest fighter to slam the new policy -- which rolled out in line with the new drug testing program on July 1 -- at a recent press conference in Brazil. 'Scarface' has vowed to carry on using IV despite the ban.
"Only if they put security guard with me 24 hours a day. I don't care. That's what's going to happen. I will do it anyway or someone else will do it for me. I will go to a friends house, to a different hotel room. I don't fu*king care about them. They won't take me out of the fight anyway. They can't take me from the fight. It's not doping. They will say they will test me. How are they going to get IV rehydration from my urine, brother? Only if they got new techniques. They are ninjas. They are fu*king stupid."
UFC president Dana White recently stated that the reason Aldo pulled out of UFC 189 wasn't because of his injured rib, but because the Brazilian feared making weight. The Nova União standout was originally scheduled to defend his featherweight title against Conor McGregor at UFC 189, but pulled out of the bout citing a rib injury. In Jose's absence, Conor McGregor seized the featherweight title with a second round TKO over Chad Mendes in the main event and it's expected that the long awaited showdown will be rescheduled in the near future.
