this story is from a article in dec 87

NBA.com: Michael Jordan Career Retrospective

With Jordan grounded for 64 regular season games the previous year because of a broken navicular tarsal bone in his left foot, the Bulls finished 30-52 and made a token playoff appearance. With Jordan healthy, they got out of the gate deceptively fast. But it wasn't long before opponents worked Jordan hard at both ends of the floor, became more attentive to his lesser teammates and, in the process, turned what had been a season of exclamation points into questionmarks.

Then there was the hurt of growing whispers that suggested he was little more than a glorified scorer. It didn't seem to matter that his teams had been successful wherever he had gone previously, whether it be North Carolina or the Olympics. Or that the Lakers' Magic admits, "I have a few more horses than he does." As Jordan's points and shot attempts soared, so did criticism, some of it from people whom he respected and even envied.

Among them was Bird, who only the previous year had called Jordan "the best player in the league." He amended the statement, saying, "When he came into the league, I thought (Jordan) would be a great all-around player, but his game has completely changed. Right now, the only thing he does is shoot 30 times a game. I'd never want to play like that. He's got to play like that, I guess, but I would never ever want to take 30-to-35 shots a game. It's too much of a load every game."

Good point. People criticize kobe about the shaq years. But when you compare what he's done without shaq to what Jordan did without Scottie It's night and day.

:rudy: Ain't no good point. No superstar can win a championship without a good core of players surrounding them...don't get caught up in the dikkriding.

After shaq left the lakers went from 3 finals trips and winning 67,57 and 57 games to 36-46,42 and 45 wins and missing the playoffs for the 4th time in the franchises history to not getting out the 1st round for 2 years

Compared to jordan who went to a bulls team that was 27-55 the year before he arrived and had terrible rosters his 1st 3 years losing to championship teams and 1 seeds/It's not even comparable

Add to the fact, Michael won everything without the caliber of big men Kobester had....in the 90s.

:deadmanny: You nikkas are infatuated with Kobe. You'll deny it but promptly follow this post up by typing a dissertation even when the thread has nothing to do with him. :laff: shyt should be a case study.

Jordan also played with george gervin before pippen was drafted and he was 10 times the player pippin was. but he was old. still you can't say it was because of pippen that he did good in the playoffs. It was mostly because of Larry Bird and his squad of HOF's + the pistons and Isiah Thomas that he lost back then. Once the top teams in the east started falling off it became his turn. same goes for everybody. even if pippen had been there he would've lost back then.

Pippens rookie year he averaged 7 points started 0 games and the pistons met the lakers in playoffs. Take shaq's rookie stats and jordan would've met the lakers in the finals and still lost. in fact any year squad jordan or kobe ever played with would have lost the lakers that year. don't put too much in stock into pippen.
