Jon Favreau to Executive Produce and Write Live-Action Star Wars Series | StarWars.com

Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau has signed on to executive produce and write a live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform. Favreau is no stranger to the Star Wars galaxy having played roles in both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau is thrilled to be returning to the Star Wars galaxy: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Disney’s collaborations with Favreau extend back a decade, when he helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and as an executive producer of the Iron Man and Avengers films for Marvel Studios. For Disney, he directed and produced the massively successful The Jungle Book, which won an Academy Award for its groundbreaking visual effects. He is currently in production on Disney’s highly anticipated reimagining of The Lion King, set for release in 2019.

The untitled Star Wars live-action series does not yet have a release date.
It's about time :wow:

Going to paraphrase a writer at birth movies death: hard for me to get excited about it cause I have no clue what he’s doing or what it’s about but I do like Favreau a lot so :manny: yeah sure why not?

Bleed it dry Disney, bleed it dry.

If you’ve learned nothing else in your lifetime, you know that’s their MO:russ:

As a creative, I roll my eyes but on the business front, I ain’t mad at it. Their job is to make money and they’re going to need original content for their service.

I liked the original trilogy but I never got into it past that. I always thought it was cool people wrote books based on the lore but never actually read one. Has any of the past animated shows, games, movies ever adapted anything from the books that came out after the original 3 movies?

Off the top I can think of Clone Wars and Rebels as animated shows that featured parts of adaptions but they usually switch some stuff up to fit into the canon.

The Star Wars Rebels cartoon has Grand Admiral Thrawn from the books in the early 90s. I know they also use a lot of planets and other names from old books

New Star Wars TV Series Reportedly Starts Filming Next Week

Disney CEO Bob Iger had previously said the company he oversees is going to focus heavily on its new streaming service over the course of the next calendar year. It looks like Iger wasn't lying as new reports have begun to surface reporting one of the streaming service's Star Wars series is set to begin production as early as next week.

According to Making Star Wars, the series — which has yet to be named — will begin filming next week in "coastal" locations. The Star Wars fan site took it a bit further and shared a handful of pictures from set, which seems to show a sandy location.

Not only bringing us the first set photos of this new television series — which will be written and direct by Iron Man alum Jon Favreau, who can clearly be seen in a few of the the set pictures — Making Star Wars also released some potential plot details.

The show is reportedly set to feature the lives of Madalorians after the fall of the Empire nearly seven years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

In the initial announcement of the series, Lucafilm head Kathleen Kennedy seemed ecstatic for a Star Wars project with Favreau at the helm.

"I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform," said Kennedy. "Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base."

Favreau himself couldn't believe the role he had been given.

"If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure."

Outside of the initial announcement, little information about this series has been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney.
