Johnny Depp Says He’s Lost $650 Million & Is Nearly Broke

A new profile about Johnny Depp in Rolling Stone alleges that the movie star – whose films have pulled in an estimated $3.6 billion at the global box office and earned him $650 million for his efforts – is nearly broke. As writer Stephen Rodrick puts it, “It had taken a month and almost 200 e-mails for the message to become clear: Come to London; Johnny Depp wants to bare his soul about his empty bank accounts.”

Detailing failed relationships and mismanagement by his longtime business associate and brother, additional highlights in the explosive reporting includes his thoughts on Harvey Weinstein and President Donald Trump (which can be read below).

On Harvey Weinstein:

He flips through the news and comes across a report on Harvey Weinstein. He shakes his head and calls him an a$$hole for burying his film Dead Man because director Jim Jarmusch refused to give up his contractually mandated final cut. “He was a bully,” says Depp. “Have you seen his wife? It’s not a wide range. It’s not like he went, ‘I must go to the Poconos to find some hairy-backed bytch.'”

On President Trump:

There was an incident last year at the Glastonbury Festival, where he asked, perhaps drunkenly, “Can we bring Trump here? . . . When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” Depp was roasted in the press. “I was trying to connect it to Trump saying he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, but it didn’t come out right,” says Depp with a shrug.

Johnny Depp’s spending is even more insane than anyone knew
By Jessica Sager

Johnny Depp wants to make one thing clear: He spends more than $30,000 a month on wine.

“It’s insulting to say that I spent $30,000 on wine,” Depp, 55, scoffed to Rolling Stone in an interview released Thursday. “Because it was far more.”

The beleaguered “Pirates of the Caribbean” star was referring to his ex-managers’ lawsuit against him, in which they alleged that his overspending included $30,000 a month on wine.

The Management Group (TMG) also alleged that Depp blew $200,000 a month on private planes, $150,000 a month on around-the-clock security, and $300,000 a month to maintain a staff of 40 people, as well as $18 million on a yacht, $4 million on a failed record label and $3 million to shoot Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon.

He doesn’t dispute many of the numbers, but took issue with the cannon cost.

“It was not $3 million to shoot Hunter into the f—king sky,” he fumed. “It was $5 million.”

Depp insisted that it cost $2 million more because he wanted to launch the late author’s remains higher than the 151-foot height of the Statue of Liberty, though Rolling Stone reports that Depp may have flubbed the $5 million number, as most recorded documents list the price at $3 million.

The actor also somewhat confirmed reports that he has lines fed to him in an earpiece on film sets.

Depp insisted that he keeps a sound engineer on his payroll not just to send him lines, but also to send him audio to enhance his performances in certain scenes.

“I’ve got bagpipes, a baby crying and bombs going off,” Depp said. “It creates a truth. Some of my biggest heroes were in silent film. It had to be behind the eyes. And my feeling is, that if there’s no truth behind the eyes, doesn’t matter what the f—king words are.”

In total, Depp is estimated to have spent $2 million per month, with expenses including homes for his family members and 12 storage facilities for Hollywood memorabilia.

TMG sued Depp after he sued it first for $25 million, alleging that TMG failed to pay his taxes on time, resulting in $6 million in penalties. He also accused TMG of making unauthorized loans and overpaying for services including security for Depp’s mother when she was alive, as well as of misleading him about the dismal state of his finances.

TMG denied the claims, insisting that Depp’s downfall is Depp’s own fault due to compulsive overspending.

Lawsuits aside, perhaps the most upsetting aspect of Depp’s financial woes is the impact his debts have on his children, son Jack, 16, and daughter Lily-Rose, 19.

“My son had to hear about how his old man lost all his money from kids at school, that’s not right,” Depp lamented.
