Netflix has hired Chad Stahelski (John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum) to helm Black Samurai, an upcoming actioner that’s based on Marc Olden’s cult book series of the same name.

Stahelski will also produce along with Jason Spitz and Alex Young for 87Eleven Entertainment. Leigh Dana Jackson (24: Legacy) is penning the film adaptation.

The Black Samurai novels revolves around the character Robert Sand, an American soldier in Japan who learns the ways of the most powerful martial arts and becomes the Black Samurai, embarking on a mission to stop dangerous forces who threaten everything he holds dear (via Deadline). The novel was previously adapted in a 1977 film starring the late Jim Kelly (Enter the Dragon, The Tattoo Connection).

A few years ago, a Black Samurai series was planned and set to star actor/musician Common (Smokin’ Aces) and produced by RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists).
