Crooked I is way better, completely different levels of rappers.

Joey makes way better music though :russ:
Crooked picks some terrible fukking beats. He sounded so much better in the 90s, I call it Tech N9ne syndrome. They found the lane that works for them but outside those niche realms their output past 2003 shaky at best.

Crook spitting over a classic west coast beat like Deep Cover or C-Walk tho and he bodies Joey.

I didn't say that, just saying he's the BEST in that respect, and that was really the reason why they came together, to bar out.

But that only works for sporadic outings. When it comes to the great songs they have togehter, they sound like Mood Muzik. Joe could bar out (not as good as Royce or Crook) and provide substance, he was the most balanced artist out of that collective, at the time at least, Royce has gotten more well rounded since then I feel like.
Fair assessment

If y'all didn't create it, someone else would've. It would just be a different foundation
I've heard for decades The Last Poets were the pivotal foundation of hip hop before sound systems in the park and Watts Prophets pre date them and Last Poets members have even cited Watts Prophets as influential, so what the fuxk are we even really talking about? Cab Calloway matter as well be claimed as the first rapper.

Thank God other regions came and built upon and improved hip hop, had we left it in the hands of NYCs originators we'd be in 2025 watching "emcees" dressed like the Village People rapping about breakfast.

There’s no lyrical challenge whatsoever in challenging anyone in the South except maybe Cole and Cole already bowed out of any and all competition. Joey Badass and 90% of New York MC’s would slaughter anyone poppin in the South. Joey seems like he wants to COMPETE and the King of The Hill right now, lyrically, critically, and culturally is Kendrick Lamar. Not to mention Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and some would say Tyler. The Westcoast seems to be putting an emphasis on CRAFT in a way that the South doesn’t. Joey ain’t scoring no points sparring with the likes of Future or Gunna. Quavo couldn’t even put up a good fight against Chris Brown, a fukking junkie r&b singer! Lil Baby was copping pleas for even having his name mentioned in a beef song talking about he doesn’t like “that part of rap”.
Tyler the Creator is nowhere near top tier lyrically, outside of that I agree though. He's making great albums which seems to be a lost art these days.

I'd take a lot of southern artists over tyler the creator lyrically though
