So I read that coli thread a few months ago about applyin to the post office, so I did and now I'm getting offered a full time job (starting 15 an hour).

I'm one year away from finishing a degree in aviation business (basically a regular business degree).

If I take the job, I'm dropping out this semester and might go back to finish my degree next semester with a schedule that fits my hours, but I know myself and know that that degree will prolly go in the bushes if I take the job.

Im leanin towards stayin in college but I have a feeling that I'd be making a mistake, everyone says that jobs at the PO are hard to come by. Then again that shyt is dyin and the federal govt is cutting back everywhere and itd be fukked up if I got canned 5 months in or something.

Stay in school and graduate.

Not that hard of a choice. Did you go to school to end up working for the post office? You could've gotten that job without a degree.

You worked too hard to get a bachelor's degree. Working for a PO doesn't mean that your job is guaranteed because they will end up making budget cuts. I am sure you can find a better job after you graduate if you network enough in school and outside of school.

What kind of job are you going to get with an aviation business degree?

Depends. If you are going to go farther in your career goals with an aviation business degree, then you'll want to stick with that.

If you want a dead-end job forever, then go for the USPS job. But, you could always try to finish the degree and see if there are promotional opportunities within USPS.

I would like to encourage you to stick with getting your degree. In the long run, you will be able to apply to "better" job openings. What I mean by that is there will be some jobs that have a "bachelor degree minimum requirement" and all the people without degrees cannot apply. You do not want to filter yourself out.

I don't know mayne, jobs are hard to come by. There are people with degrees making less than 15/hr.

My suggestion would be to take the job, and force yourself to finish the degree anyway, even if it takes an extra semester or two. Why be lazy when you can have your cake and eat it too? :manny:

Take the job, stack bread, and make yourself finish the damn degree anyway. That way, after you graduate, you still have income in case you don't find a job for a while.

You're degree isn't good at all, and it ain't going to land you any great jobs. The post office has great jobs, and I haven't heard of the PO doing any layoffs in my area. The PO also has some of the most ridiculous retirement and benefit programs in the game. Honestly, I would not pass something like that up.

With your degree, you can be a manager at Hertz car rental, a sales supervisor at Frito-lay or even worse, you could just be working as a sales rep for some retail sales company ( pepsi-co, coke, wine companies, etc).

Government jobs are great to have because the government can always just force the taxpayer to pay your salary. The government has the power of the "gun" to force people to pay your salary. No other entity does.

listen man, even with degrees people arent eating out there... who cares if it takes you another year or two. the fact that you even made this thread lets me know you aren't 100% IN on this degree thing.. do the smart thing if you dont wanna put yourself out there.

What position is the job for and what does the job market look like in your city?

Basically if you're confident you can score a good job after the degree, stay in school. If not, take the job and find some night classes.

1. What kind of job are you looking to land with your degree?
2. Why can't you do both? I was working 40 hours my last year of college at an internship.
3. You have already put in three years of school, why throw all that away?

Its assistant city carrier, mailman basically.

With networking I could get a job at jet blue before graduating, but the most important part of the degree is the minor in ATC I'm doin. That's the highest payin govt job with great benefits. Course there's a hiring freeze right now in the FAA, so it won't be til 1 maybe 2 years after I graduate that I'd get called up (if I do well enough in classes and a standardized test you take).

Not that It matters, tommorows the training and I'm gonna go and tell em I can't do the job. fukk it really made a decision and can't look back

I think that's the right decision. No need to throw your degree in the bushes to become a mailman dude for 15 dollars an hour. You have already invested three years.

But you now have to hustle. Start by Looking for an internship or co-op in you field.

You can't continue to go part-time? or Online? I would NOT drop out. So many people lie to themselves about going back one day but do not. I'd stay in school, esp. for a job outside of your field that you haven't worked yet and you don't know how you'll even like it.

I'm late but eh I can contribute. Good luck, I hope things work out for you.
