2017, WWE is a truly global company, and they still went with generic foreign heel. A guy who worked has ass off to go from comedy jobber alcoholic to fired to brought back just to fill up the card to getting so jacked that Vince put the strap on him, that the crowd was in support of when he won the title, and could have been a huge feel good story of a dude putting his people and nation(s) on his back and being a hero instead of another 80s stereotype storyline.
Off WWE TV, he's the nicest, most humble dude and everywhere he goes people love him. People were so happy for him in Canada. I really think that might be the biggest missed opportunity over the past year or two. I'm sure it damaged whatever cultural star he could have been in India as well, since even though commentary and editing made him out to be a face, he was just an angry guy bragging about how much better he is than everyone else and cheating every match.
Look at how fukking baller he looked with the belt, with that entrance, with that swag, he could have been a real star if they let the story go to it's natural place. Made even weirder that they went on to have him feud with a Japanese star for 2 months and had him be racist to him.
