after just under a week, the Jets look close to securing a deal with their new general manager, Tom Gamble.
A source with knowledge of Jets contracts told TheJetsBlog Saturday that the deal for the current Director of Player Personnel in San Francisco looks to be around three or four years depending on an option clause and could be worth in the neighborhood of $8 million per year based on financial accelerators. Gamble is in the New York area today meeting with the Jets and has already cancelled his next interview which was set with the Jaguars.
While the announcement might not come for a few days, the wheels are apparently moving and the Jets seem set on getting Tom Gamble in as their guy to run the personnel side of the team. Gamble was the Jets top choice coming into the process and the Jets current head coach likely appreciates the type of team that Gamble has helped Trent Baalke to build in San Francisco. Ryan and Gamble also have personal history from their days where their fathers worked together for the Eagles in Philadelphia. Even so, there were rumors early on that Gamble would want to bring Niners Defensive Line Coach Jim Tomsula with him wherever he landed. No word yet on Ryans status.
Of course, there is the important question as to whether or not the Jets have adhered to the the Rooney Rule, which states that every team must interview a minority candidate for head coaching and general manager openings. As of right now, TJB cant confirm whether Marc Ross has interviewed with the team, but its clear that Ross was cleared to do so a few days ago.
