The acting luminary has carved out a distinct career for herself. Her signature, dramatic, mahogany-rich voice has dubbed Lewis the βMother of Black Hollywood.β Her visage has graced more than 400 television episodes, 68 films, 40 animations and four Broadway shows, according to Black America Web.
Fans fell in love with her, again, as the character Ruby Johnson on ABCβs Black-ish and now can catch her on the Showtime series I Love That for You.
Lewis started her career performing in her church choir at the age of 5 and, as an adult, journeyed to New York and landed a role in the musical Eubie, based on the work of Eubie Blake, according to WBLS.
