Pascal: Beating Sergey Kovalev Makes Me TBE in Canada

Jean Pascal feels that a win over Sergey Kovalev on March 14 in Montreal would not only land him three world titles and would not only give him a claim to being on the top of a division that has Adonis Stevenson as the lineal champion.

He feels it would also bolster his legacy significantly.

“In my country, if we look at my résumé, after this fight I am supposed to be recognized as the TBE in Canada — the best ever in Canada, because of my résumé,” Pascal said on a Feb. 24 media conference call. “I fought primetime Chad Dawson, not when he was washed up. I fought Bernard Hopkins, 24 rounds. I fought Carl Froch, 12 rounds. Adrian Diaconu, 24 rounds. And even though I lost two fights, every fight that I lost were close fights. After March 14, I’m supposed to be recognized as the best ever in my country, and then we’re going to go after the world.”

The 32-year-old Pascal is 29-2-1 with 17 KOs. He was at super middleweight when he lost to Carl Froch in late 2008. Pascal began a new lineage as light heavyweight champion in 2010 with a win over Chad Dawson, but his first defense was a draw against Bernard Hopkins and his second defense was a loss.
