I look at it like sampling. Everything comes from somewhere else. Most of the best hip hop is either sampled or interpolated from older shyt. That includes beats and lyrics. Most of your favorite hooks are a re work of some older song. When Jay uses Big lines and shyt like that, most people know where that came from. People clown him for it (especially back in the day) because of Nas’s line in Ether.

HOWEVER I do absolutely believe he bit Young Chris heavy and I’m not sure why because his flow was better before:scusthov:

Sampling? :laff:

These dudes are rappers. The 1st rule is Originality

Your Username is gifted by Chief K....probably the last Original rapper. That's right. Chief Keef is more original than Jigga

Wether you think Jay Z used Biggie lyrics as a clutch or not, you’d foolish to think he had to do so to be where he at now. Dude literally one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Far as young Chris, Jay did start doing the little softer flow more after Chris was doing it. But took his style? Come on now. That’s shyt always been a ridiculous ass statement smh. Borrowed his flow? Yes. Took his style? Hell naw. Young Chris dope to me but he is thousands of tiers lower than Jay Z when it comes to skill in this rap shyt.

You guys don't get it

He was biting their lines as if it was a reference track to build a song
Ever seen that movie Finding Forrester and the main character Jamal got caught by the teacher with plagiarism?

Because he started the writing with Sean Connery character words to build his own words
Jigga biting was another form of reference tracks

The difference is cultural relevance of the source material quoted, has to be of cultural significance so it is recognized as a quote that pays homage

I've come to find out that Mac Dre actually did this a lot with Too Short's older material but he was doing it with a younger audience that his movement was attracting and only the OG's who were too OG to get down with the young audience (unless they were a part of his movement) were privy to it

But it blows your mind when you go back and hear the classic source material

It's kind of like when Dr Dre built his legacy on reinterpolating music that was created by George Clinton, Funkadelic and other funk icons of the 70s ... Music popular as he was growing up he repackaged and repopularized for a new generation, many would grow to find the original source material later in life

But with all that he was able to add to the value of his legacy and his musical brand from the work of these artists, it would be nice if he could bring them in the studio and make some new material with them together, I'm sure it would be inspiring for them too to realize the fruits of their work culminating in a collaboration with such an impactful producer
