Jay Z and Will Smith's Emmett Till Film Scoops the Writer From Nas' 'The Land'
A writer has been secured for the upcoming HBO film about Emmett Till, which will be produced by
Will Smith and
Jay Z among others.
Steven Caple Jr., the writer behind the critically-acclaimed,
Nas-produced movie,
The Land, has been tapped to handle writing duties for the anticipated yet-to-be-titled mini-series. The movie series will tell the story of 14 year-old Emmett Till, who was lynched in for allegedly flirting with a white woman in 1955.
Emmett Till was also the subject of another hip-hop helmed project recently. Celebrated artist Fahamu Pecou tapped Killer Mike on the poignant song,
“Emmett Still” which was used as part of his acclaimed exhibition at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
In addition to productin duties on what’ sure to be a powerful film, Jay Z is also busy planning his next
Tidal benefit concert, in addition to lending his
voice and money in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Meanwhile, Will Smith had been busy
denouncing republican presidential nominee Donald Trump while on his most recent promo tour.
No release date has been announced for the upcoming Emmett Till movie as of yet.
