Jared Leto Rumored For "Doctor Strange"?

Late yesterday came the news that "Sinister" and "Deliver Us from Evil" director Scott Derrickson would take the helm of Marvel's "Doctor Strange" project.

Now, Badass Digest adds that recent Oscar winner Jared Leto is (or was) being eyed to play the title character.

In fact it would seem he has been under consideration for some time, but it's not known if the studios are still pursuing him.

The site adds Derrickson originally came onboard the project as a writer only, and the tone will be similar to that of "Iron Man".

I like Leto as an actor but I just can't see him as Dr. Strange. I envision Strange as having more gravitas and heft about him, while Leto is just slight in every way and I think the character should be a bit older.
My top 5 actors I think would be perfect for the role of Dr. Strange:

Joseph Fiennes

Mads Mikkelsen

Pedro Pascal

Depp just doesn't seem to give a fukk any more and I doubt being cast in a super-hero movie would be the role that gets his creative mojo working again.
He'd be more likely to half-ass it as Dr. Strange like he did in that shytty Transcendence movie. Or even worse overact with some bizarre accent and affectations like he has done in the last slate of Tim Burton movies he has made.

UPDATE: Variety is reporting that Phoenix is in "early talks" to play Doctor Strange. This is definitely moving forward. But "early talks" does not always mean a deal will eventually get made. Still, this news breaking a day before Marvel's Comic Con panel suggests that they might be further along than "early talks", and that an agreement has been made in principle. We'll find out for sure tomorrow! Here's my original story...
