They should have been given back full military power years ago. They are the "good" guys now and not part of the Axis of Evil. Japan is always at the forefront of technology so maybe if they get the full military back, they can technologize weaponry better than anyone.

Well, it was a WWII thingy. I mean, look at Germany. They have a military that is independent of a self defense role rule.
