James Cameron Names Zack Snyder As An Inspiration

I don’t think many people would have guessed this one! In an interview with Comic Book Debate, famed director James Cameron was asked what film makers he admires and is inspired by. Cameron first mentions some masters of film such as Hitchcock before going to the directors that continue to inspire him today. One of the name’s mentioned is no other than the DC Extended Universe creator, Zack Snyder.

Cameron calls to attention that Snyder is an established film maker now, but that he remembers when Snyder first broke onto the scene, presumably with Dawn of the Dead and 300. He comments that he was thrilled with people like Snyder who were “creating their own new cinematic language” and breaking film conventions in the process.

Curiously, Cameron also specifically names Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and Tim Miller (Deadpool) as other influences. Thus, three out of the four people named (Cameron first mentioned Ridley Scott), are known for their comic book works! Here’s hoping James Cameron joins the fad. Hey, I heard The Batman is open…

Recently, Cameron actually did comment on why he is not interested in directing a superhero film. It comes down to Cameron wanting to work with his own material and not having to worry about fitting a movie in with a pre-existing franchise. He has however, voiced some interest in returning to The Terminator franchise (with Tim Miller!) once the right are reverted back to him.

Unfortunately we might all have to wait to hear about anything new from James Cameron for quite some times as he works on the next FOUR Avatar movies. In 2 short years, it will be a decade since the original released.
