Remember back in April of 2012, when Skyfall was still months away, and Columbia Pictures said they were already planning to have James Bond 24 in theaters by 2014? Well, that idea seems to have gone out the window. Just recently we heard that Skyfall director Sam Mendes would not return to the director's chair for the next James Bond adventure, but writer John Logan would be behind the script, but apparently it might take a little longer to get off the ground than originally anticipated. The good news is MGM Chairman and CEO Gary Barber said, "We look forward to announcing a director soon." So what's the bad news?

Reuters (via The Playlist) reported Barber's comments at an investor's meeting where he said:

"We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released."

Now, this isn't necessarily a guarantee that the film won't get released in 2014, but if they're just now getting ready to develop a script, it seems very unlikely that we'll get a tentpole action film finished in under two years. What this might mean is that we could get a summer 2015 release for James Bond, and that's just fine with me. While it's disappointing that we might have to wait longer for the next James Bond mission, following the success of Skyfall (my favorite movie of 2012), I'm fine with giving the filmmakers enough time to get it right rather than rushing production and making a mess of a film. How about you?

License To Kill transition to Goldeneye was the longest hiatus this franchise had. I don't mind waiting as long as we have another dope film like Skyfall.
