Lil Durk was fire on the first two Signed to the Streets mixtapes in 2013 and 2014. Some people like the second tape better, I like the first one better. After that era, Durk's sound changed and I wasn't digging it.

It's impressive how far he's come after the turn-around. Def Jam signed him in 2012 and dropped him in 2018 because he hadn't had a song that charted since 2015. After a 5 year drought, Lil Durk's popularity skyrocketed in 2020. I wonder how the lockdown played into his career.

I’ve been a fan of Durk for so long it’s crazy to see what he evolved into. Dude went from Chicago drill to mainstream rap to Future lite and makes music with elements of all three.

I don’t really like his latest projects but I’m still happy for him.

Durk started to regain momentum in mid- late 2017, he was the hottest thing in Chicago by far during that time sans maybe Herbo

He got dropped in March 2018 by his label, so Lil Durk hadn't gained enough momentum yet.

His dad Big Durk got released from prison in July 2019. Maybe that was the switch Lil Durk needed. He been on an unstoppable roll since 2020.

unfortunately, Laugh Now Cry Later and Von's death put him in a different zone. he no longer cared about barring nikkas up or speaking to the street blues. now he's more into chasing trends, flows and hot collabs for better or worse. he's adapted his old style into where it will fit but his originality is shot nowadays. It seems to be working for him tho so it is what it is.

I would say that started a lot earlier. Remember that fake industry relationship Durk and Dej Loaf had?

I looked it up, it was from late-2014 to late-2016. I can't believe how long they tried pushing that and barely anyone bought it. :mjlol:

When he was hanging with French Montana, he was still fully street. Right after that he went more industry and probably tried to emulate what he picked up.

He wanted out of Def Jam, it wasn’t really that he got dropped lol. Def Jam saw his momentum they wanted to keep him

I fw Durk but I get bored af with his heartfelt piano loop beat selection.

In 2011/12/13 at the height of drill, I would have never thought he'd have been the mainstay out of the city and become a mainstream success.
