I have vivid memories of the first time I heard Protect Ya Neck on the radio at night on Hot 97. After hearing it once, I listened to the Funk Flex for days to tape it the next time I heard it but had no idea who these cats were. My favorite verse was ODBs (First things first...)
Then a few weeks later, I remember sitting at the food court in Newport Mall in Jersey City and this crew was walking around with this big boombox
(remember them days
and
simultaneously) blasting M-E-T-H-O-D Man. I wasn't feeling it initially, but of course it grew on me. After that song blew up it was over.
C.R.E.A.M. dropped on late night radio and people went bananas
Once when cats copped the album, I remember hearing "Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nothing to Fukk With!!" on repeat in cars and at friend's cribs for days.
Man, that was 20 years ago.
Getting
for real.
