People must really be burnt out from working for big publishers, or maybe tencent, amazon, embracer and other big investors are just making it easier to get funding now. I have a feeling there will be a whole new set of big AAA franchises and studios by the end of this generation, like BioWare, Dice, and CDPR were.

And thats just this week!

Theres like 30 new studios that have formed with industry veterans at the helm since this generation began.

Modern AAA games are not sustainable in financial terms or the human capitol it takes to make them.

It makes sense that talented and experienced people wanna jump off that train before it crashes.

Only for incompetent studios.

We will most likely see these games late current gen or early next gen, but intrigued. Hopefully, these studios can secure the proper funds to make quality games.

Most of these new studios are creating AAA games.
No they aren’t.

Not in comparison to what we consider AAA games today. Like the GTAs, God Of War, Call of Duty, etc style games.

These are small teams trying to do creative things with less, to rival those AAA games.

These are the teams that end up making the Callisto Protocol, Plague tail, Atomic Heart, Kena, ect style games.

Which i think is a good thing, and a good place for talent to be concentrated.

I mean, whats really the difference at this point? The only thing that holds all those games above back are the way they play, and that has nothing to do with budget

Nothing really. Just saying the way people are making those games is changing.

Those “thousands of people working on this game” games have gotten out of hand. The people working on them don’t even wanna do it anymore and the return on investment isn’t worth it from a financial or creative standpoint for all but the very top few blockbuster games.

Its worth it if it hits, like most games, whether its AA, Indie, F2P. Etc.

An indie developer doesn’t have it any easier than a AAA developer, Team Cherry is 3 people that have been working on the same game for 5 years now, it it came out and bombed they’d be ruined. We see smaller studios close down every week, thats the fickleness of the gaming industry as a whole.

No. it has to REALLY hit to make it worth it. Those games cost so much to make, the return on investment is dwindling with every release.

It’s why Ubisoft could sell millions upon millions of games and still be on shaky ground financially. It’s how Sony could have the most successful AAA games out but still decide they need to make some multiplayer games ASAP to support their business.

Team cherry has a much lower bar for success, It’s much easier for them to at least make their money back and they aren’t spending multiple hundreds of millions to find out.

You realize part of those increased budgets are due to marketing, right? Those games typically have more exposure and higher sales potential because in general they are spending a lot more money to put it in front of people. Even some of those indie games we hear about year round, have extremely high marketing budgets.

All that shyt is relative. The bar is raised but everything else is raised with it, if you have microsoft, sony, Nintendo, Annapurna, Digital Devolver, etc. pushing your game you’re already in a different league than other indie developers
