its great for meeting protein demands if you are lifting

but if your overall calorie intake is above your maintenance you wont lose weight. If thats your goal

no individual food is going to cause you to lose weight on its own

Yes and no.
If you are gaining more muscle mass from the increased protein intake, then yes, it is beneficial because having more muscle helps you to burn more calories.
If your total daily caloric intake is going up because of the protein shakes you are drinking, then, whatever muscle gains you make might not necessarily help you increase your metabolism level such that it will burn your additional caloric intake, so you will actually gain weight.

I would advise to save your money, skip the protein supplements. Focus on exercising regularly and decreasing your daily caloric intake. Cut out alcohol intake too if you drink. Your body burns up the alcohol first (always) before it burns the calories.

If you're cutting weight why would you want to get your protein from a shake instead of food?

I'm going to tell you why this is utterly ridiculous....

You are trying to cut weight right?

This means you will be eating at a caloric deficit. Don't you want to be able to eat less calories but be as satisfied and full as possible? Yes, of course you do because being full and feeling satisfied means you'll be more likely to stick to the caloric deficit needed to lose weight and your diet will be easier.

So what is going to be more satisfying and fill you up more? 500 calories worth of protein shakes? Or 500 calories worth of chicken or beef?

Your decision...

Everybody knows that your caloric cut is most important. Stop being finicky fakkits. Threadstarter is just asking which protein source is best if attempting to lose weight. :snoop:
