Yes and no.
If you are gaining more muscle mass from the increased protein intake, then yes, it is beneficial because having more muscle helps you to burn more calories.
If your total daily caloric intake is going up because of the protein shakes you are drinking, then, whatever muscle gains you make might not necessarily help you increase your metabolism level such that it will burn your additional caloric intake, so you will actually gain weight.
I would advise to save your money, skip the protein supplements. Focus on exercising regularly and decreasing your daily caloric intake. Cut out alcohol intake too if you drink. Your body burns up the alcohol first (always) before it burns the calories.
