An Arbor In the Forest: Green Affordable Housing Development Opens In the Bronx | Observer

A new Bronx housing project built through a private partnership and they have a rooftop garden, is energy efficient and green.

How will New York rappers cope when they can no longer brag about being from "Marcy" projects? :lupe: Will we ever see another Papoose?:to:

Houston has been on this since the mid 90s. The 1st generation of these "new projects" are already falling apart.

yeah, it never matters what it looks like at first as long as the dual apathies that allow them to crumble continue to exist

Although it is a good start.....there is a lot of theory about whether design effects the economic outcome of people...and the consensus is probably that it won't......but at least it'll look good... :troll:

Nah...but I think design is important.....that whole 1940,50s, 60s housing project swag that swept all the major cities back in the day...with the dreary brick going 12 stories into the sky is probably on its last legs...and more friendlier looking buildings with amenities like the green roof, etc are coming into play....

Does make me think about some housing projects in Houston too...... and if design and amenities can somehow defy expectations and somehow align with a new spirit that goes against the generational poverty that seems to linger in some place....then even better

hopefully not, anything that doesnt lead to ownership and private property is a waste and doomed to fail

What are your thoughts on Thatchers "Right to Buy" scheme wherein public housing was sold to poor tenants at a subsidize price?

"Mr. Davies, 70, bought the small flat for a mere £3,000 – less than the price of a car – shortly after Lady Thatcher unveiled her “Right to Buy” scheme for public-housing tenants in 1980. In 2000, he sold the flat for £60,000 and wishes he had hung on, because property prices have soared since then. “Still, it was a great investment,” he says.
Thatcher

Think that might work in the hood? Albeit tweaked a bit(like forbidden them from selling the property for two decades etc.).

That is an awesome post - one of the better ones I've read on this site in quite a while. Thank you sir. I also happen to agree with you. Aesthetics is extremely important.
