I think the Wrestler might be one of his most rawest performances tho... since it kind of mirrors his career in real life. I don't know if I agree that it's his best flick but it IS a great movie.
But I'd also add... Angel Heart and Year of the Dragon (probably his most underrated flick) to that list as well.
true on the wrestler bein' his rawest and obviously the one that mirrors his career in real life
i really didn't care angel hart and while in some instances year of the dragon was a decent movie, at times i found it to be a bit cringeworthy. i think it could've been a whole lot better. the movie starts off really good an then somewhere it kind of loses it steams, maybe because it's so long, i don't know.
it really is a shame for as great as an actor mickey is, he bullshytted so much of the earlier part of his career
when you look back at his films at the early 90's before his retirement and then even his comeback in the 90's with a bunch of lackluster films, it's a shame. he'd burned so many bridges that the best scripts he could get when he came back where garbage, except for coppola's the rainmaker which was only decent at best but still better than the straight to home video movie scripts that rourke was mostly only gettin' when he came back in the late 90's
