And no one in my immediate family can trace our genealogy/family tree beyond our grand parents. And oral history is not enough to know about our past.
You’re Fortunate to have known and seen your grand grand parents. You inherited stories, memories and recipes. 3 of My 4 grand parents died well before I was born, and I was only able to see and meet my paternal grandmother in late childhood and haven’t seen her in 20 years. She’s probably dead by now.Yeah I don't have that experience so I can understand the desire.
Longevity and a big family has really helped my family keep their history.
On my mom's side. Both my Great Grandparents lived into their 90s. My Great Grandma's youngest brother is still alive and moving along pretty good for a 93 year old man. My Great Grandma kept one of those Gigantic Bibles with these pages in the back with names of relatives going back into the late 1800's. On my Dad's side my Great Great Grandma was still alive until I was like 5. And my Great Grandma lived into her 90s. But, my Dad's family is more splintered so I don't know a ton of their history.
