Is the 23andme kit test worth the risk? They won’t sell my God-given DNA to the feds, labs and private health companies right?

I want to know more about my genetics and my origins but I’m worried about this.

My sister already bought me the 23andme kit for my birthday. It can’t be returned for refund

white elephant that shyt at a work christmas party.
I told her was I interested to know my origins, that’s why she bought it

And no one in my immediate family can trace our genealogy/family tree beyond our grand parents. And oral history is not enough to know about our past.

Do Government officials and private health companies have access to your personal health records in hospitals ?(blood test results for example)

I bought one before the pandemic and never pulled the trigger. Hadn't thought about it since I forgot about it. I might do it in 2025 idk... already did African Ancestry :salute: and the paranoia of people "getting your DNA" never made sense, but I guess it got to me...

That shyt is on every straw, can, spoon/knife/hair follicle etc that you leave behind :comeon:

Yeah I don't have that experience so I can understand the desire.

Longevity and a big family has really helped my family keep their history.

On my mom's side. Both my Great Grandparents lived into their 90s. My Great Grandma's youngest brother is still alive and moving along pretty good for a 93 year old man. My Great Grandma kept one of those Gigantic Bibles with these pages in the back with names of relatives going back into the late 1800's. On my Dad's side my Great Great Grandma was still alive until I was like 5. And my Great Grandma lived into her 90s. But, my Dad's family is more splintered so I don't know a ton of their history.

You’re Fortunate to have known and seen your grand grand parents. You inherited stories, memories and recipes. 3 of My 4 grand parents died well before I was born, and I was only able to see and meet my paternal grandmother in late childhood and haven’t seen her in 20 years. She’s probably dead by now.
