Is Michael Cole replacing JR an overlooked reason why the quality is down ?

Just realized Cole had been announcing Raw for 10 years :picard: absolutely 0 classic moments. Nikka I can divide that's... 0 fukking classic moments in 10 years :scust: how is that possible with 3 hours of Raw?
JR would have twitter going crazy on a nightly basis but instead we get

"could it be!?"

"oh my!"

"it's boss time!"

" SUPERMAN PUNCH":scust:

"the Big Dog!"

Even then he did Smackdown for 10 years and didn't do anything past above average there. JR and Lawler really made Raw special for us back in the day

Case in point

Its a partial reason.

But at this point Vince doesn't think most fans remember JR.

Michael Cole peaked is very good at what he does in the style he does it, but it's just kinda emotionless.

Edit: come to think of it Cole was pretty damn good at that UK show I thinj it was... Or maybe it was the Japan show. Either way, Vince wasn't in his ear and he was much better

No. JR was fukking TRASH for a good 4 years before leaving the booth full time. Watch shyt from 2005-2009 and tell me he wasn't awful. He seemed to lose whatever passion he had for the game sometime in 2003-2004.

It's not Cole's fault he calls shyt the way he calls it. It's a mandate to sound more like actual sports commentators. Mauro gets away with it on NXT because Vince is hands off and it is the niche brand anyway.

Well...JR isn't all that great now and Cole is actually pretty good when Dunn isn't in his ear, his Beast In The East commentary for example.

Kevin Dunn is the real problem, "Goddess", "Empress Of Tomorrow", "Monster Among Men", and "Boss" being blurted 100 times during a broadcast can get annoying.

Agree with OP. The commentating is a big factor in why the product sucks today.

Oddly, Michael Cole was good in the beginning, say around '03? Something changed and as some have mentioned it may be company mandate to be generic.

Everything about this show has become generic. Generic announcing, theme music, look, promos, production. They've Randy Orton'ed the entire program

He was a lot better on SmackDown. When you don't compare him to J.R. and King, his commentary was more fun to listen to. He sounded immersed in every match he called, like when Lesnar, Eddie, and Rey won the belt or when Edge cashed in MITB. The Cole we know now isn't the same Cole from back then.

The Jim Ross type is a rare breed, and it's one that Vince doesn't want which is why the commentary sounds the way it does. Those commentators that can make any moment exciting and create art with their words don't belong in the WWE anymore.:mjcry:
