i think so :yeshrug:

i had a discussion with my lil cousin and he was talmbout how nowadays most cats dont check for lyrics and hot beats reign supreme over everything in hip hop

the lyrics and the beat used to go hand and hand, but most these late 90s/00s babies give no fukks about a lyric and only fukk with shyt with ignorant ass beats

what yall think?

n1ggas dont even know what lyrics are and yet they so vocal about it, you let a couple writers in the source obscure your ears and vision.

These are not lyricists, infact they are anti-lyrical :

Cannibus
Pharoe Monch
Talib Kweli
etc

Lyrical : The art of capturing an illusive feeling or picture
Lyrical : The art of making the complex, easy. poetically.

+ lyrics havent mattered since 2003

But a part of hip hop is also just making hot songs that sound good and those songs dont really need to be super lyrical.
Dont get me wrong i love Wu,Mobb, nas, roots, beans and a bunch of other lyrical rappers but i also understand the other side of it.

Basketball is my favorite sport,
I like the way they dribble up and down the court,

You cant say that song wack breh...

i aint saying everybody gotta be on some "rappity rap" shyt but if you look at all mainstream rappers you'll see how most nikkas just coast when it comes to lyrics

and the point is a lot of young cats dont give a fukk about a lyric if the beat ain't hot, which is a problem IMO

the best of lyricists in whatever genre make you feel like you're reading a book or watching a movie.

mainstream nowadays is like you're watching a commercial.

and like commercials, nikkas only watch them so they can be told what's popular and where to buy it.

Me, I don't watch TV. fukk a commercial.

A big part of this is the "Favorite rapper" effect.
Thats when somebody's favorite rapper was once good but then he gets to the point were his fans will accept anything from him and say it was hot.
