His character is basically the athletic african american face. He's not a cornball but it comes off that way because he's articulate and educated. Its a shame that those characteristics make a brotha corny, but out of all the black dudes affiliated with the E, I give them props for not making Kofi extra ghetto. Now him being Shelton Benjamin 2.0 that's a whole different story.

Kofi does actually come across as pretty naive. Not that it's a terribly bad thing, but I was listening to him talk to Colt Cabana on "The Art Of Wrestling" and just strikes me as such a do-good type that he can't help himself. Like, he doesn't have much of an edge...he's just happy to be in the business and can't help but be a nice guy...so much that it shines through, even when he's trying to display "attitude".
Seems like the type of guy that the boys in the back would play ribs on because he's gullible or because his angry reactions are hilarious. Good dude, though.
