Downloaded Tekken 8 a few weeks ago—my first Tekken ever. Now, I’ve been deep into 2D fighters my whole life—Street Fighter, MVC, Guilty Gear, you name it. I dabbled in Soul Calibur back on the Dreamcast, but 3D fighters never really grabbed me.

Man… the moment I took this game online, I started getting cooked. Haven’t won a single match yet. Maybe I just suck, but damn—one launcher near a wall, and it’s over. And look, I’m no genius, but I do know how to block in fighting games. Yet somehow, I’m sitting there blocking and still getting my guard broken? What am I even supposed to do about that?

I think my Tekken journey might already be over, but someone convince me otherwise. :francis:

I don’t play Tekken but I don’t think it’s too late. It only a year old.

You said it’s your first Tekken so getting used to the 3-D aspect means you’re probably going to get clapped up plenty early on. :manny:

Tekken is a game about knowledge checks and fundamentals - however, this is the easiest Tekken ever made in terms of a new player perspective

What character do you play ?

You'll want to learn key moves, biggest mistake new players make is trying to do everything on the movelist - 80 percent of that isn't useful

You basically want to attack while taking the least amount of risk as possible
That said, you did start late - the casuals and noobs have all but faded out now - its mostly people who have been playing for years - if you are running into really good players they may be on their second account ..

I need to see gameplay to see what you are or aren't doing

I don’t have any Tekken knowledge beyond the basic fighting game fundamentals—blocking, punishing, pokes, etc. I’ve been playing mainly as Leroy and Dragunov, but I haven’t had room to experiment or figure things out online—feels like that ship has sailed. I’m stuck in the beginner ranks, and if I make one or two mistakes nikkas are juggling me to death. I’ll record some gameplay this weekend.

I think you’re playing smurfs, nobody should be juggling you to death at beginner ranks

Just tell me your tekken name I can watch replays

Dragonuv is a top 2 character, Leroy sux, but at your level it shouldn’t even matter, people don’t know why or why not a person is bad or good

Not at all, Tekken 8 got a bunch of new players. If anything, I've read this is the easiest Tekken yet.

I'm not very good, but if you post some videos you'll get a lot of tips here.

iirc, Harada is changing some things so there's no smurfs at low ranks. Yeah he definitely shouldn't be getting juggled. That doesn't really start until what, orange ranks?

Not sure but …

I forgot that Harada put easy mode on the game with one button combos … maybe that’s what’s happening

That could be it, but I doubt beginner ranks are smart enough to use one button combos. If they are, op should post the videos, we could easily guide him away from the that.

I don't know what beginner ranks play like that, been awhile since I fought one.

With any newer fighting game the question should be "Do I have time to get good at"

With all these training modes available now along with online comp. Anyone can get good if they put the time in.

Don't expect to be competitive within the first 3 months. Take those L's and learn.

Your feeling is valid here. Tekken 8 is by far the most unforgiving game in terms of blocking ive ever played. If you even THINK of another input, your block is invalidated fr.
