Let me clarify, today Rap as A whole is very blurry, you have rappers like Chief Keef, Future, Gunplay,Gucci, 2Chainz, Young Jeezy that do their thing with the Trap records or whatever you wanna call it all with their own style to it.
Then you have rappers like Meek Mill, Rick Ross, ASAP ROCKY, Drake, Lil Wayne, etc. who do it big commercially with huge singles that are appreciated by millions that feel like this is Rap music.
Now you have "rappers" like Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Travie McCoy who make some super watered down rap music with techno beats to appeal to the soul of the white man and make that guap.
Last but not least you have rappers like Nas , Jay-Z, Eminem, 'Pac, Ice Cube etc who still or at one point in their career kept it what some may call it "Real Hip-Hop" with crazy subject matter, classic beats, classic verses and really try to say something in their lyrics. Also I can't forget cats like Cole, Kendrick, Ab-Soul, Action Bronson, KRIT as a new wave of lyricist that really try to keep it to the tradition while moving the music forward.
My ultimate point being, should all these categories I mentioned above really be labeled under the same music genre? Honestly it's getting old seeing rappers like Rick Ross being put in top 50 lyricists of all time lists and I'm a ross fan
