We've seen mainstream rock gasp it's last breath at the end of the 2000s with Staind, Daughtery and Fall Out Boy registering their last major radio singles (okay Fall Out Boy had one more but you get my point).

Is Indie Rock basically over now too?

Indie Rock was a strong underground movement in the 70s and 80s but then Radiohead took the genre to a new stratosphere in the 90s.

It continued to the point where Pitchfork consturcted their whole business around promoting the latest newest hip Indie Rock darling.

But now who is left? Is any one really checking for that Vampire Weekend album that dropped this summer? Arcade Fire is probably the biggest indie band. Anyone hyped for their album which just dropped?

Maybe the buzz is still there and I am just in different circles or have outgrown it but I am the only one who feels like this movement is on its last legs?

i think 09 was the last big, heavy feel for indie imo.

fukk no. You're just looking in the wrong places.

I copped the YYYs which I am enjoying. I like most of the Bat For Lashes album too.

The Grizzly Bear album was disappointing to me. It can't fukk with Veckatimest.

Found Millionyoung to be pretty lacking though the EP was really good.

Bon Iver is just too boring. I like a few of his songs but I need to be headed home from a funeral to really listen to that shyt.

XX second album was wack (of course the first is amazing). And as good as Beach House's Bloom was, Teen Dream was better.

The only recent album that I heard where I feel like an indie artist improved was Real Estate.

Tried to fukk with new darlings Haim but it was i-ight. Nothing special.

Need to check out the new MGMT and Arcade Fire. Waiting for the new Surfer Blood too.

What am I not checking for Young Casablancas that i need to get on? Don't say the Strokes. :lolbron: Bad joke.

Oh you know what. I forgot Tame Impala - Lonerism. That album is REALLY good. It's excellent. Alright. Maybe Tame Impala will save Indie Rock.

Ya know... The Grizzly Bear album was not that good, but the stand out tracks were really good imo...

Tame's album was amazing... and The XX album was garbage straight up... Unless you are depressed as fukk I guess :manny:

But I think Indie Rock is still producing some decent music.

Foxygen released a decent album this year and the new MGMT is not bad at all...

and you're right.... Real Estate is really fukking good... I see them being around for awhile..

the last rock band that caught my attention was 400 Blows. TBH, I don't even listen to rock like I did when I was younger in the 90s and early 00s. The majority of what I listen to is either something electronic (house, breaks, techno, ambient, juke, jungle, dubstep, trap, IDM, etc) or rap/hip-hop. Rock is just so boring now. All the dangerous and talented musicians of the bands of yesteryear have been replaced by talentless, pretentious, and squeaky clean nobodies.

:salute: to your music taste breh. I just listened to the MGMT album this morning. I thought was dark yet quite good. I was going to create a thread about it but then changed my mind. Nice to find like minded musical folks. Of course now you are going to say that you agree that Janelle Monae sucks and we will go from :handshake: to :bustback:.

Janelle Monae blows cock.

Decent performer though. As for her actual music, has about as much personality as an excel spreadsheet
