when it stops making money they might sell it if they need cash or at least rent it out to someone else, I honestly don't care who owns it as long as they give creators liberty to make their own style of stories, I lost that hope with Disney when they fired the directors of the silly Han Solo prequel and went with a by the books borefest instead.

The actor who portrayed Han was a terrible fit but that was probably the best movie they put out next to Rogue One

Yeah, basically.

They'd need to somehow completely crater the market for Star Wars to the point where no one has any interest in it whatsoever, and that the fanbase will probably never let that happen. They went 16 years without a movie, and came back even stronger.

And even if that somehow happened, whoever's buying would probably need to come to the table with about $10 billion as a STARTING offer. And really, the only people doing that are most likely companies Disney sees as their direct competition. Not happening any time remotely soon.

Will they ever let go?

they've had it for less than a decade. at this point, there aren't many players with the capital to acquire lucasfilm from disney.

so unless the likes of netflix, amazon or maybe comcast/universal decide they had to have that intellectual property, I don't see this changing anytime toon.
