This is something I have been thinking about.

Looking at Jericho, with his body of work, I think he might be the GOAT of GOATS in terms of Universal popularity. When I mean this, I am talking about a person who really have ABSOLUTE admiration. Like whatever he does, he never seems to have people saying anything bad, or really never have the crowd getting tired of his fukkery.

I know Gimmicks usually are just Gimmicks, but it seems with Jericho, he literally is the Global Rockstar that people want to always watch and want to see more from him; be it Wrestling, Podcasting, his band Fozzy, or sporadic Entertainment ventures.

Even before Hogan's racism, people just figured he was cashing checks. The Rock was viewed as just coming back to promote his movies. Ric Flair while entertaining seemed to dial it in, trying to still be Ric Flair.

This also applies somewhat to people who were loved, but for the most part left the Industry behind them. Stone Cold Steve Austin never came back after his last match, coming in to Stun a person on ocassion but personally left the business to move on to another venture. HBK became a hunter and really shows up to say hello, but for the most part has left the business.

At 47, Jericho has remained constantly fresh for almost about 20 years. And yet here we are, he is going to draw people to watch a really good match with Naito. Always entertaining, and yet he can lose to Naito, and he still WINS because he made people want to watch the card just for this match. That's serious drawing power and really Jericho has never been in that "your too old/you no longer interesting/stop trying to keep down talent/you look flabby n' sick".

Will there be some 'eh' moments, yeah, but in the end it's still very watchable.

This is just my opinion, but we are lucky to have Jericho still around.

I agree.

He's almost underrated at this point.

I remember watching him and "Ralphus" in WCW and he was great there and it's 20 years later and dude's still a great promo, can put on a good match and work a good program.

I wouldnt put him up there like that. Especially when the Rock is a man who did not have to come back and show the industry love. Jericho didnt succeed in other areas like him..so wrestling is what he has to come back to. And thats what fans of crossover stars could never comprehend.

But Jericho is an all time great and still creating great moments. The industry is definitely better with his contributions here in 2018.

I was just watching Eddie vs Jericho at Fall brawl 97. What a WONDERFUL PERFORMER Eddie was in that timeframe..so fukking crisp...for Jericho to be able to mostly keep up with him during that speaks volumes of what he was always meant to be.

Going on the wording of the OP, I was hesitant to say yes, but based on the explanation, he's the absolute GOAT at what he does. Every top tier GOAT or even second tier great is essentially loved for what they did to get to their current position. They're just redoing the hits.

Jericho on the other hand is always doing something new and different each time he comes back, which not only gets over for the present time but also adds to his overall legend. It's not an easy thing to do which is why nobody else does it.

Well Jericho is doing very well with Fozzy, maybe not big rock stars, but enough to gain serious credit.

People talk shyt about them all day

Agreed with OP

Posthumous its Eddie

People talked shyt about them cuz they were given the ball to run with...Jherico was never put on the spotlight to have to carry the show as the main guy

So because of that he can't be most beloved. You avoid criticism when the spotlight isn't on you.

He really mentioned Michaels. :pachaha:

Shawn will get mega pops no matter what has had mania classics and had successful main event runs, created a historic faction and was involved in getting Austin to the next level with Tyson

While Jericho had potential if he had been given the same spotlight we will never know...he's a great worker and great on the mic but without being given a chance to be main event status or a chance to draw for the company we will never know if he still has the same amount of love.

RVD is another one I would have loved to have been given a real run as the man...and he had his best shot the first time he took on HHH on raw but then of course had to job to him coming hot off of ECW

Fans always over rate the midcard and underdogs because they look at them as forever opressed but as soon as they get the ball those same nerdy fans turn on them and get tired of them

Eh, Michaels barely gets pops now and hasn't for a while. Loved by critics and wrestling nerds, but he has no longevity as a mainstream star.

Jericho definitely gets the award for staying at least B+ relevant and reinventing himself over the years. Dunno if anyone's been able to do that like him. Definitely one of the GOAT versatile talents too, could do it all pretty well.

We clown him a lot for not being home, but dude’s drive and dedication to the business is almost unparalleled, especially at his age. It’d be real easy for him to coast on old catchphrases and slogans from the Attitude era, which for a minute in the early-mid 10’s he was doing. Then came 2016 and beyond, where he was able to reinvent himself AGAIN and get over fukking scarves and a prop list. It’s a testament to how creative he is and the connection he’s got with the fans. Even now in this NJPW run, we’ve seen a meanstreak of him in the past but this violent rockstar he’s become is yet another fresh wrinkle in a HOF career. He deserves whatever praise he gets.
